Community learning centers provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children. The program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can compliment their regular academic programs; and offers literacy, parent involvement opportunities and other educational services to the families of participating children. |

Centers provide a range of high-quality services to support student learning and development, including tutoring and mentoring, homework help, academic enrichment (such as hands-on science or technology programs), community service opportunities, as well as music, arts, sports, and cultural activities. At the same time, centers help working parents by providing a safe environment for students.
The U.S. Department of Education, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and the Wausau School District Community Service Fund provide funding for these programs. |
