Literacy development at Thomas Jefferson School is viewed by staff as one of the most important curricular areas to strengthen in our students.  We have a primary and an intermediate literacy coordinator who have gone through extensive literacy training and on-going professional development.  They serve as coaches for teachers in all aspects of literacy.  Most of the teachers have taken a 40 hour graduate class taught by the literacy coordinators as well as continued 20 hour follow-up classes on in-service days.  We are committed to literacy!

A comprehensive literacy program has the following components: Reading, Writing and Word Study.  Each of these components has several parts.  Click on a link to each section to find out more about literacy at Jefferson School.
